IL TEATRO NELLO SPECCHIO

A site-specific project engaging with its surroundings in the historic Casa di Carlo Goldoni, named after the renowned Venetian playwright who profoundly transformed the theatre of his time. Works produced in collaboration with Ongaro & Fuga.
Featuring a selection of works from designers who have produced contemporary mirrors made using traditional techniques of the island of Murano, Il Teatro nello Specchio (The Theatre in the Mirror) attempts to question the void that separates our image from our being. Each element has been meticulously created by the hands of skilled craftsmen in a creative exchange between traditional and contemporary art practices that culminates in a project that confronts the spectator with a representation of the interplay between reflected image and original object, revealing the disenchanted impartial reproduction and the innumerable symbolic and moral implications attributed to it. In the mirror, as in the theatre, recognition and illusion are confused giving rise to an inner disorder linked to our constant desire to understand and see our identity in the reflected image or in the character we see acting on stage. Mirrored glass reflects and refracts as the reflected image and original object are merged, revealing the disenchanted impartial reproduction and the innumerable symbolic and moral implications attributed to it.
